18th Birthday

Today is Cailean’s birthday. He would have been 18. I can still remember my Grandma Sheeran waking Brittany and me up so we could go to the hospital to see Cailean for the first time.

I have “lyme” (tick-borne) diseases also. I’m sorry for your loss. He’s a beautiful person. Thank you for caring enough about your brother to honor him in this way. It’s touching. It’s also encouraging to see you’re helping the “Lyme” community. Please know that even as far away as California (and in other countries, as well) we are in the same battle—to change the political/”medical” climate which keeps many from the care they need. It’s so important that you told Cailean’s story. God bless and comfort you.

John Sheeran:

I found out recently that Cailean shared the same birthday as did Eddy Shaver who was the son of Billy Joe Shaver. Billy Joe is one of my most important musical and American heroes and Eddy was his lead guitarist for many years until his death about 5 years ago. Later I found out that June 20 was also the birthday of Chet Atkins. That’s 3 pretty good guitarists for one date. I believe that Cailean got to hear Eddy play when he went to Austin with us one year. As it happens, I played Billy Joe’s song “Live Forever” at the two wakes.
Billy Joe also wrote another wonderful song entitled ” If I gave my soul” which expressed his remorse about losing his son. I would gladly give mine for his return. Our family was very blessed for 18 years.
